Mesohippus Skull

This fossil skull belongs to Mesohippus, an early horse from the Oligocene epoch that was crucial in the evolution of modern equines. About the size of a dog, Mesohippus marks the transition from forest-dwelling browsers to open-habitat grazers. The skull features elongated facial bones and teeth adapted for tougher vegetation, reflecting the shift toward larger size and more complex teeth in later horses.
